Take Back Your Mind, Take Back Your Life  By:  R.E. Darby

Consciousness And Awareness

Our personalities are usually determined by our fears, courage, weakness and strengths, and those are states of mind, where did they come from? It is abundantly clear that these conditions are the result of outside influences and not the result of our natural state as we would be, had we not allowed ourselves to be tampered with by those outside influences such as family, society and its many needs, and a questionable educational system. But even these powerful forces could not have affected us had we not already been under the influence of a fundamental error of perception concerning the nature of reality.

That fundamental error has to do with the levels of consciousness and awareness. Most Humans in todays world are born, live and die without ever realizing that there is more to life than the ongoing technicolor movie in their mind, because they perceive that movie as the actual real world. The truth is that this is not so, and can be proven by developing enough self discipline to realize that we can achieve a higher level of consciousness called mindfulness by some. What defines this level of consciousness is its ability to be aware of all the activities of that which we call our mind. Yes, it can and does watch the thoughts as they arise and disappear from consciousness. This knowledge represents the enormous power that we have to take control of our own mind and thus exercise the power to determine the experiences of our lives.

The Construction Of Identity

We not only perceive that movie or conceptual framework as the real world, but we also see that part of ourselves that is involved in the movie as the real us, the one we perceive as 'me, my, mine and I'. So, the fundamental error is that we believe that the consciousness that is obsessively focused on the thoughts of our mind and the world created by those thoughts is not only the real us, but the real world as well. We accomplished this by the simple processes of association and conditioning. So we end up identifying with our abstract minds ability to not only create conceptual realities, but make us believe that they are real and we actually are the person that responds and reacts to those realities.

This is La La Land for sure. A conceptual version of ourselves living our lives in a conceptual version of reality. It's like we never met our real selves where we actually exist, right here and right now. Where and when we are breathing, feeling the radiation of the star on our skin, perceiving the vibrations we call sound after we conceptualize the experience of hearing. But we no longer feel sensations, we no longer experience the endless phenomenon of actual reality as it is occurring in the ever changing flow of life inside us and outside of us, we no longer feel or experience real life because our attention is completely consumed and occupied by the conceptual reality of our mind.

The Dream And The Consequences

Living our lives in an abstract dream of reality is not necessarily a bad thing as long as your dream is working out for you in positive and constructive ways that allow you to make a solid contribution to the world and life on the world. But if your life experiences are not what you want or expected, then your dream of reality may need some tweaking if not a complete makeover. Yes! Not everyone lives in a good and fulfilling conceptual reality. In this situation we need to become aware of our conceptual reality and how it was created so we can then begin to take the steps necessary to change our lives. Yes! It is possible, it is not easy, but it is possible.

Our core beliefs, which are themselves built from our fears, weakness, strengths and courage, are the foundation of the conceptual framework we live in and respond to. So, if for example, a persons core beliefs are healthy, positive and optimistic with a strong self image, then their movie will be about living a successful and comfortable life. On the other hand, if there is little self esteem and weak and negative core beliefs, the movie will be about failure, defeat and endless struggle.

The Makeover Project

Though we have the enormous power to choose, why would we choose to live our lives in a conceptual version of reality instead of the actual real world as it is taking place, where it is taking place? And how do we break the spell and extricate ourselves from the dream of life and begin living it? Well, the degree of difficulty will be directly related to how many years you have been alive. That is how many years you have been exposed to the dream and this is how many years of constant conditioning you will need to overcome. For all you instant gratification junkies out there, sorry, this won't happen overnight. You will have to bring some success skills to the effort, not the least of which is patience.

But the good news is that you are not alone and there are tools that have been developed to help you go down this path which leads to nothing less than true freedom, peace and happiness. Tools like meditation, creative visualization, positive affirmations, self talk, yoga and self hypnosis are all designed to help us get through the strange and sometimes twisted maze of self realization and self improvement. For those of you who are a little weak on success skills, I recommend that you try a self hypnosis program first because these are the tools that bring the quickest results and this helps to build that all important success mindset that will carry you the rest of the way.
