Thoughts and Emotions (cont)

But to do so requires some investment of mental and physical resources. We convince ourselves that we are turning off our emotions by first denying their effects, which have a physical component (all emotions have a corresponding physical feeling or sensation attached to them) we not only have to divorce ourselves from the thoughts behind the emotions but the physical aspect of them. We can take care of the thoughts by simply lying to ourselves, but the physical pain will require actual physical effort in order to numb it from our awareness, and this will demand energy. This is why we feel so much more energy when we finally discharge these conflicts. We are freeing up those resources that were being used to keep ourselves unaware of what we so long ago did in order to deal with overwhelming and or overpowering emotions usually at a time when we were ill prepared to deal with them. To deal with them now when we are better prepared, we only have to access them (become aware of them) feel the feelings, examine the thinking and apply our current reasoning ability to them and release them once and for all.

Emotional Intelligence

It seems like Human emotions have always carried a bad rap. Uncontrollable, inefficient, chaotic, unpredictable. Do these descriptions remind you of anything? How about the very young Human life form who is just beginning to develop. Just as the Human species has neglected to develop intelligence in the broader sense, we have also neglected to develop our emotional intelligence, or even our emotional domain, in an intelligent manner. Also, the emotional domain seems to be defined more by its negative potential than the positive. Fear, anger, jealousy, resentment etc. rather than joy, happiness, bliss, peace and contentment, satisfaction, fulfillment.

It is easy to understand why society would not actively seek to develop the emotional domain. Societies, like government departments, agencies and bureaus are only interested in self survival and they are constructs of the mental Human domain, or the cognitive brain. Emotions are a whole different ballgame. Though an underdeveloped emotional domain can lead to self deception, a well developed one is more likely to deal with the actual truthbecause of its firm connection to the heart, and societies don't do well with the truth once they reach the point where their own survival is more important than the interests and welfare of the citizens it is originally meant to serve.
But even if we travel back in time to primitive man, it isn't difficult to see where we would have opted for the cognitive mind over the less definite intuitive one. One is immediately verifiable and the other is always kind of vague, though this difference may well be due to the one, being so much less developed than the other.

It's easier to obtain instant gratification with the cognitive mind. We can see objects, hear sounds, touch and feel and taste and therefore manipulate and control the physical world around us. On the other hand, if we receive an intuitive message, we must rely on a certain amount of faith. Even if our intuition turns out to be correct, until we develop our connection to, and relationship with these sources of information, motivation and energy, we will always have difficulty believing in them. When well developed and intelligently applied, this domain does not lend itself to any need for manipulation and control, it is more about perception, intent and experience. It perceives, motivates and initiates action.

The Emotional Domain

The emotional domain is almost like an alien planet, at least from the perspective of the mental Human. It is that different. Though it may be easy for us now to look back and see why we chose to focus on the cognitive mind, it is not so easy to see and understand what we may have traded off as a result. And this is mostly due to our lack of awareness and understanding of this amazing resource.

  • Perceives
  • Motivates
  • Initiates

Perception

Non verbal, intuitive, instinctual. Just some of what may be many subtle information sources the emotional domain is capable of tapping into. When we suddenly know something but are not sure of how we know it. When many subtle bits and pieces of seemingly unrelated events, experiences and vague ideas come together in one instance of insight that reveals some hidden truth or reality. These kinds of abilities, if left undeveloped, will remain vague and unreliable tools. But when we give them the recognition they deserve and invest the necessary time and energy into developing them, we begin to remove obstacles and limitations that keep us from exploring some of the greatest powers we possess. Not the least of which is our spiritual potential.

Motivation

It is well known how powerful some emotions can be, but few understand the nature of that power. Power depends on energy and the emotional domain knows where the energy is, and how to access and use it. Here too is a good example of the interdependence of these domains. The energy of course comes from our physical domain. It is important to note the ease with which the emotional domain can access and use our physical energy for its purposes, whatever those purposes may be.However, without this capability, characteristics of the emotional domain such as intent, will, commitment and desire would be ineffective because they would have no power/energy behind them. These are the driver elements, to intend to do something is meaningless if there is no power behind that intent. To have will without power is no willpower. The word desire is just a symbol without will and intention, and commitment is completely useless without the other elements.

In many ways, the well developed emotional domain could be considered an energy management system designed to determine need by priority, allocate and distribute energy in an appropriate manner based on intelligently determined values and satisfy the rationally defined needs of the individual.

Motivation makes little sense without action. Here again the interdependence of these domains becomes clear. The mental Human domain can process information all day and determine that action is needed over and over, but if there is no participation from the emotional domain, that is; desire, intent, ambition etc. then nothing is likely to actually happen other than a lot of thinking and maybe talking. But if there is not enough energy behind the determination for action, then there is no action. Strangely enough, the dynamic behind thought, desire, action, is one of the systems we manipulate in order to avoid taking responsibility for our actions, or in this case, the absents of action. We deceive ourselves into believing that we are really doing things by thinking and talking about doing things while not really actually doing anything. We simply leave the energy to translate thought into action out of the equation, and then forget that we had a hand in doing so.

The Physical Human

The first realization that occurs when looking at this domain is how incredibly unrecognized it is. For something so significant and important to be so completely taken for granted is astonishing. Even minimal levels of awareness in the here and now will reveal this domains value, but it's possible purposes is another matter. Yes, we can say that our existence is its own justification and let it go at that, but as we have seen so many times before in this investigation, the point from which we are viewing something either opens or closes doors of opportunity for learning or insight into knowledge that may result in deeper understanding. We will first look at the obvious nature, purposes and assets of this domain, and then perhaps engage in some hopeful speculation that may take us beyond the obvious.

One fact is abundantly clear. The Human physical life form is the most incredible form of life to appear on this world to date that we know of. It is an incredible infrastructure system and since infrastructure systems are support systems, we ask, what exactly is this system in place to support? And why? In the Healthy Balanced Systems Management Model, where does the Human life form fit in? What purpose does our form of life serve in the Agenda of Life? What contribution does our species make to this world? Does nature or the Agenda of Life allow life forms to exist that have no purpose in the grand scheme of things? And if so, for how long?

Which leads to the second thing that is abundantly clear. To date, the Human life form is the most squandered, underdeveloped, underused, and therefore wasted resource on the planet. When will our kind realize who and what we are? Strange how looking at the thing we take for granted the most, can suddenly lead us into areas of self realization that we don't normally want to look at. Yet we cannot ignore the obvious without deceiving ourselves even more than we already are. But that too is a choice that we can make, that is one of our powers, what will we choose?

The Human Body

To perceive the physical domain as simply an energy producing system that exists only to support the other domains is to make the mistake of oversimplification. Though they may be limited by the standards of some of the other life forms on the planet, our senses have served us pretty well. Yes, they have been and are capable of being a liability, but that is more of a personal developmental issue rather than their nature. Our physical and emotional senses are considered our primary interface with our internal and external physical environmental realities. From the standpoint of our senses, the internal environmental reality is the least developed and therefore the least understood. The pressures of cultural indoctrination which almost exclusively focus on the external physical reality, are a large part of why the internal reality is so neglected.

Aside from information gathering through its sensory capabilities, which serve two objectives, the first of which is survival response mechanisms and the second being learning and development, the physical domain is also an efficient power plant that delivers energy to various systems on demand.

So, this infrastructure apparently supports information gathering, survival response mechanisms and energy requirements on demand. And all of this over and above basic life support which is no small infrastructure in itself. From this point of viewing, taking the physical domain for granted has to be a symptom of dysfunctional behavior, and if that is true, there must be a reason or agenda involved. Where Humans are concerned, even dysfunctional behavior serves some purpose, fulfills some need. That this infrastructure, when it is healthy, maintains a system that stands ready to serve the other domains when necessary, is basically a miracle equaled by no other life form on this world. But the critical point here is, 'when it is healthy'. When we are talking about integrated systems as we are here, it is a given that if one system isn't running well, all the other systems will be affected and therefore the whole will somehow be affected as well. When we doubt this, all we have to do is remember how well we think and manage our emotions when we are sick and our energy resources are diverted to the task of fighting off a virus or other intruder.

The Spiritual Human

Once again our research turned up some interesting results. If you put any form of spirituality into a search engine, you will not find any reference to spirituality without some form of religion attached to it. Incredible! It's like the world believes that they are one and the same thing. Being a member of an organized religion does not necessarily mean you are spiritual. Meditating regularly doesn't mean you are spiritual. In fact, the phrase 'being spiritual' is somewhat misleading. Spirituality is something we Humans can experience. We won't say that the Human life form cannot experience this state every second of every day, at least to some degree. But a pure state of spirituality might be a little too intense to have going on all the time, at least until one has a chance to get accustomed to it. Even so, we won't rule the possibility out completely, that would be closing the door on our potential and possibilities without good reason. The simple truth is that yours truly just doesn't have enough information / experience yet to come to any firm conclusions in this regard. But that doesn't mean that I don't have any information / experience at all. Also, we have already committed severe acts of speculation in our investigation so far, why should we make exceptions for spirituality? Especially in view of the fact that there is little or no information circulating out there on the subject of the spirit that isn't in some way associated with some organized religion.
